About

Founded in 2021, the New Alexandria Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the cross-cultural and comparative study of societies worldwide—both small-scale and large-scale, traditional and post-traditional. The original founders were mostly experts in the civilizations of ancient Greece and medieval Persia, but the scope of expertise rapidly expanded through the recruitment of experts in the study of all human societies over time, from prehistoric to historical phases, from the distant past to the immediate present.

Our most visible presence is in the form of publications, both print and online, though we have begun releasing a series of minimal-computing commentary environments and are in the process of making available interactive 3D images of curated ancient archaeological sites. In addition to these types innovative content offerings, we are fostering intergenerational collaboration and community-building in order to integrate these and other resources into educational environments, with the short-term goal of developing open-access courses. In a similar vein, NAF will be publicly releasing content originating from a course titled “The Ancient Greek Hero in 24 Hours,” which is a synthesis of a college-level course that has been offered yearly by Professor Gregory Nagy for over nearly half a century.
